Characters!

We finally as a team came up with characters that embody the style and feel of our film. We came up with character designs that are "cute" and that the audience will enjoy. We looked at several styles we were interested in and came up with designs that had a combination of all them. Our characters are UPA style, graphic and stylized. The style resemble cartoons such as Fairly Odd Parents, Two Stupid Dogs, T.U.F.F Puppy, & Power Puff Girls.



Sandy created the baby & colored it in Photoshop. I assisted her in creating the baby's facial expressions & poses that will appear in some of the scenes in our film.

 

I came up with different character designs for the dog. But I knew that this one was the best fit for our film. The baby & the dog resemble the same style.



Sandy colored the dog in Photoshop. She placed the 2 characters next to each other to show how tall they are next to one another.



Storyboards, Storyboards

My role in my team is the lead storyboard artist. And I have been trying my best to make our storybaords reflect our creative ideas for the film. I have been busy re-drawing panels & taking storyboards that will make our story better and understandable. They're still rough and dont' show our recent character developments because we are still working with character designs. But we have came up with some cool styles for our characters now & we feel these designs will be in our finalized film. I will most likely end up re-drawing them entirely or leaving them as they are. But for now here are some shots of some of the panels we have currently in our storyboards.




This was phase 1 of what our storyboards looked like before. We constantly took our panels & rearranged them.





This was phase 2 of our storyboards. As you can see there isnt any missing panels like the image above. I spent time fixing the boards by redrawing some panels that would help make the story cleear and took out panels thate weren't working.





This was for the 3rd critique. The storyboards are more neatly arranged & mounted on a black board & the panels now have scenes numbers and camera direction notes written underneith each panel

 

Sneek peek of one of the panels from the actual storyboards, which is one of my favorite panels in the story. In this shot we have the baby sliding on his belly onto the kitchen sink.

Another panels from the storybaord. This is the establishing shot of the entire kitchen. We havn't finalized the kitchen layout designs so this kitchen idea might change. Thisis a rough idea of how we want the kitchen to be.

My version of Frida Kahlo

Made this 18X24 drawing for a friend that loves Frida's paintings. She still has this hanging in her living room. Unlike Frida's original paintings, I decided to try something different and color it entirely using Prismacolor pencils. I also decided to add the 'Dia de los Muertos' skull design. I felt that this would make it unique and also celebrate my mexican culture.

My final design. I changed it from a Lion to a Saber..mixed with a Rhino. I named it Saberoceros

We did it! Woooo

I wanted to share with you all a drawing that was created/drawn from my Woodbury friend (& team member from our junior film Arctic Affair) Sandy Zarrabal. I helped her by adding a few things. I drew Penny the Penguin (right), Dave our instructor...well half of him any ways, since you only see his arms & hands!...and alllll the animation paper....We seriously used that much, or probably more! Our studio was filled with paper by the end of the semester. Although this isn't color, its still a cute drawing of us as charactors. My team members: (top row-left to right) Tina Fallah, Emily Quinn, "Bill" Yelin Zhang, ME! Jorge Avalos, Sandy Zarrabal, & Jorgan Bickelman. Oh wait...lets not forget our main charactors from the film!...Penny, Baby, Melvin & last but not least, Diego!

The City

This was my 1st time using Adobe Maya 3D software! A short film that I completed for an assinment at Woodbury. I created a city using the extruding tool & used a texture tool for the buildings.
